Vicar
The civic church of Ipswich
Diocese of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich
Since 1200 AD, Ipswich Minster (previously known as St Mary le Tower) has held a key position in Suffolk’s county town. This civic role, together with our highly regarded choral tradition are central to our identity, offering distinctive ways in which we serve the town, engage the local community, and proclaim the Gospel with both dignity and accessibility. We are seeking a priest who will lead and inspire our worshipping community through prayerful, profound liturgy and engaging, thoughtful preaching. She or he will be able to sustain and grow our life of mission, deepen discipleship, and strengthen our pastoral care.
We are seeking a Vicar who:
- Has a mature, disciplined prayer life and a desire to help others grow in faith
- Can lead a large, inclusive church with humility and clarity of vision, inspiring others to work collaboratively in the service of God’s kingdom
- Is an engaging and thoughtful preacher and teacher, able to communicate scripture in ways that are clear, relevant, and adapted to different contexts
- Brings a strong pastoral instinct, with the ability to build and sustain a culture of shared pastoral care
- Will honour and sustain the beauty of worship, including a commitment to dignified, excellent liturgy and the choral tradition
- Is at ease in civic and public settings
- Is financially and strategically aware, with the capacity to oversee fundraising initiatives and support the long-term sustainability of the Minster
We look forward, with excitement and hope, to welcoming a Vicar who will lead, support and shape our community, as we seek to deepen our spirituality and grow closer to God.
