Consultancy

 Faithful discernment

Helping parishes, PCCs and leadership teams understand their current reality, discern faithful direction under God, and make better decisions about vision, current context and aspirations.

Consultancy: Faithful discernment supports parishes with three types of support. CPAS works with churches to clarify what is happening, reflect theologically and identify faithful next steps.

The offer has three approaches:

Orientate

A one-day process for PCCs and wider leadership teams.

PCCs, parish staff teams and wider leadership groups, ideally 10 or more people.

A parish needs a day to review activity, check vision and purpose, and agree shared priorities with external facilitation and prayerful guidance.

A facilitated workshop or away day helping the group name current reality, reflect on change, reconnect with local context, agree priorities and identify what may need to stop. The day is bespoke to your needs and aspirations. It is built around your context and where you are heading.

The parish gains shared direction, practical actions and clearer ownership across a broad leadership group.

Two days of work plus travel, including one day on site.

Align

A three-visit process for small senior teams

A small senior team, usually three to six people, such as the incumbent with key staff, clergy, wardens or core lay leaders.

Vision, culture, authority and delivery are not aligned, or when competing priorities, unclear responsibilities, drift or overload are affecting leadership.

A staged leadership review over two to three months, using three facilitated sessions and coaching or checking conversations with the vicar.

The senior team gains clearer focus, stronger alignment, reduced drift, more realistic priorities and better ownership of decisions

Three days delivery over around two to three months, plus two days preparation and up to two one-hour coaching, checking or scoping sessions with the vicar. It involves facilitated discussion, shaped around key insights and approaches which are adapted to your context and need.

Three days delivery, two days preparation, two checking, scoping or coaching sessions, plus travel.

Establish

An extended whole-parish review using evidence, observation, survey and analysis.

Parishes facing significant decisions where the incumbent, PCC, Bishop or Archdeacon is looking to understand of parish reality through experienced review and support.

The parish needs more than a workshop or leadership conversation before deciding future direction, structure, resources, mission, sustainability or strategy.

An extended evidence-led review using coaching with the vicar, parish-wide survey, data and document review, on-site observation, theological reflection and written analysis. The approach is bespoke to the context and needs, leading to a full report with the scope agreed in advance.

The parish gains a credible, evidence-based understanding of what is happening and a stronger basis for wise, faithful and practical decisions.

Up to days of work, including one or possibly two days on site, parish survey, analysis, data review, theological reflection, report production and up to four one-hour checking or coaching sessions.
